Jenny Smith - Psychotherapist
Over the last six years I have developed a practice that combines my primary training, as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist (DMP) with training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), Accelerated Experiential Psychotherapy (AEDP) and mindfulness based approaches to mental health. I believe that we all have an inherent capacity and ever emergent capacity for healing and that one of the reasons people enter therapy is because they are seeking some sort of change in their life. I make use of talking, visualisation, arts materials and movement to help facilitate that natural process.
Alongside my private practice, I deliver psychotherapeutic services in schools. I teach and supervise practitioners who are new to the field and work alongside teachers, parents and students to create a positive learning experience that adapts and is flexible to the needs of those working, and learning within it.
My therapeutic style is guided by attachment and relational theories, and I lead with compassion and understanding, aiming to be curious with those I work with in exploring the difficulties they experience with the goal of undoing aloneness and creating opportunities for personal healing.
Book NowWhat to expect from a session
There are lots of different approaches to therapy and everyone’s journey is unique. By combining ideas from talking, creative and body based therapeutic approaches we can work together to discover the best way of working for you.
Research tells us that the most important factor in therapy is the relationship between client and therapist. Connecting with those around us is a natural and universal human need, so our first few sessions will focus on building that rapport, co-creating a safe space to be seen and heard so that effective therapeutic work can occur.
